CLA (conjugated Linoleic Acid) is an omega-6 fatty acid.

It occurs naturally in a variety of foods such as turkey, beef, and some dairy products. Research suggests that CLA enhances fat loss and increases lean body mass. These studies suggest that a diet consisting of as little as 0.5% CLA has a significant effect. CLA is also believed to have an effect on the way nutrients are used by the body at cellular level. It is a powerful antioxidant. CLA inhibits the development of some forms of cancer (breast, colon, prostate cancers and melanoma). CLA reduces the risk of heart disease by reducing blood triglyceride levels thus reducing atherosclerosis. It is believed that the cis-10, trans-12 isomer is the most therapeutically active isomer (the are 8 different isomers). CLA can lower elevated blood sugar levels, prevents insulin resistance, and normalizes insulin levels and may therefore be of benefit for Diabetes Mellitus patients.
