Creatine
Creatine can help increase strength, explosive power and muscle cell volume. It is involved in the explosive contraction and relaxation of muscle cells and is essential in the production of ATP, which is the high energy compound that fuels the muscles.Creatine is found naturally in our diets, predominantly in meat and fish but the levels found naturally in these sources is not sufficient to elicit a positive effect on athletic performance which is why creatine is a popular supplement with bodybuilders and strength athletes.
By taking additional creatine through supplementation, the user can expect to see increases in strength and explosive power. The reason for this is that in the body, creatine is directly involved in the production of ATP, which is the muscles primary source of fuel when performing short and intense periods of exercise such as lifting weights or sprinting. However, ATP is depleted very quickly under intense exercise, usually after around 10 seconds, so by having higher levels of creatine in the body, more ATP can be produced which in turn allows for longer periods of intense exercise.
There are numerous forms of creatine available and all of them are effective at increasing the levels of creatine in the body. From the widely studied and popular creatine monohydrate, to the newer novels forms such as Kre-Alkalyn, magnesium creatine chelate and creatine pyruvate, users often find that one of form of creatine can work better for them than others, so if you try one form and do not notice a difference in your training, it could be that you will respond more to another form.
